BACKGROUND STORY 1 – The Legend of Satan-Morroc
Legend has it that a long, long time ago the once fertile plains of Rune Midgard were scarred by an epic war between the great hero, Thanatos, and the evil Satan-Morroc. This was before settlers arrived and the great cities such as Prontera were formed.
The scars of their battles lingered for hundreds of years and ravaged the lands in what is now known as present-day Morroc.
Ultimately, Thanatos defeated Satan-Morroc and imprisoned him in the bowels of the desert. To prevent Satan-Morroc from escaping, Thanatos and his followers built the legendary pyramids of Morroc and placed on it powerful dweomers and sigils, as well as great beasts to guard the tomb of the fallen demon.
BACKGROUND STORY 2 – The Curse of the First-Born
Another myth is spoken in hushed tones by bards and elders...
Before the world of Rune Midgard was formed, there existed a great and legendary beast, the Great Wyrm Jormungand. This beast was so massive that it devoured entire planets in order to survive. When the fate of a certain group of worlds was threatened, 7 demi-gods banded together and set out to hunt the great Wyrm.
They battled Jormungand for centuries, the clash of their swords and the powerful maws of the Wyrm were so powerful that it disrupted the very fabric of space. Some say that it formed the planets and other celestial bodies.
The leader of this group of warriors was Tristan Gaebolg. Tristan and his “Mighty Seven” kept the Great Wyrm at bay but their strength was waning. He traveled to Asgard to seek the help of the great and wise Odin. Odin was pleased with the way the Mighty Seven fought and so he tasked his son Thor to assist them and continue the fight with the Great Wyrm.
Odin also asked the Fates to empower Tristan's chosen weapon, a spear, with Asgardian energy attuned to killing wyrms and dragons.
Once the spear was ready—named Gaebolg in honor of Tristan's bloodline—Thor and the Seven set out to put an end to the galactic menace, Jormungand the Great Wyrm.
And so the clash ensued! With the help of Thor and Gaebolg, Tristan and his group slew Jormungand. In its death throes, Jormungand uttered a curse... that all first-born of the Mighty Seven will die.
To ensure that its evil would not rise again, Tristan and the Seven slashed the Wyrm into many parts, majority of the carcass falling on a new planet. In honor of the great conflict, Thor named the planet Rune-Midgard and appointed Tristan as its first king and caretaker of the realms.
From the bloodlines of the Seven, the future kings of Midgard ensued. However, the curse of the Great Wyrm Jormungand rang true generation after generation, and the royal first-borns always died...
